About Melissa Sexton, CPM, RM

Melissa, she/her, started attending births as a doula in 2000 and earned her (CD) certified doula certificate with Birthworks in 2002. She started attending homebirths is 2003. In September 2008, she completed a five-year apprenticeship with the Home Birth Midwifery Service in Memphis, Tennessee, earning the designation as a Direct Entry Midwife (DEM). In March 2009 she received the credential as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). In May 2009 she was initially approved by the state of Tennessee to practice as a licensed midwife. She has now retired her TN license. She is a Registered Midwife (RM) here in Colorado. She maintains a current adult, child, and

infant CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certifications.

Melissa moved to Arvada, CO in September 2010. Before this she lived, worked, and raised a family in

Memphis, TN from 1980- 2010. She has four kids, all born at home: Kala (1998), Sierra (2000), Orin

(2002), and Charles (2011). Her husband Chris works for Delta. Her family and grand babies keep her busy. When not busy with them, she enjoys making herbal goods, gardening, hiking, soaking up nature, going to farmers markets, going to festivals, listening to music, and crafting.

About Samantha Venn, CPM, RM

Samantha, she/her, has always loved pregnancy, birth, and babies. After the birth of her first son via

cesarean, she knew there had to be a better way. Deciding to go for a VBAC she found midwifery care

and fell in love with the model. Though she didn’t get a homebirth the first time around, she was still

victorious in achieving her VBAC safely and joyfully. It was then she knew she wanted to be a midwife

and provide the same love, compassion, and trust filled support she experienced with her own midwife.

In 2009 she began her midwifery studies very slowly as well as completing a 36-hour doula training with

ToLabor. She attended births as a doula throughout the years while still raising littles and having 4

homebirths (HBAC) of her own, including as a surrogate in 2017. Her surrogacy was an honor and was the final push she needed to go all in with midwifery.

In the fall following her beautiful surrogacy

experience she connected with Melissa and began her apprenticeship. She completed her training in 2021 and passed the national certifying exam with the North American Registry of Midwives establishing her as a Certified Professional Midwife. On the 10-year anniversary of Melissa’s Colorado license Samantha got her Colorado license as well.

Samantha lives in Golden with her husband of 19 years and their four living children (born 2005, 2007,

2012, and 2014). In her free time, she enjoys creating art, going for walks, music, movies, yoga, and the

beauty of our incredible state. She loves to laugh and infuses humor into work when possible.
